Open Letter

To: my supporters, and non-supporters

From: Mike Eller

Well, the smear campaign has begun, and I didn’t start it.

My opponent, Comrade Murdock, and his lawyer lackey, hiding behind internet anonymity as “Trusty Getto”, have launched a deliberate broadside of false accusations, lies, misrepresentations, and half-truths (the most effective form of lying) against me, my party, my character, and, most importantly of all, my campaign for City Council.

I have run a completely open, “transparent” (to use my opponent’s description of what he thinks government should be), above-board campaign, addressing specifically the problems and issues facing Ypsilanti’s City Government, going door-to-door, talking with the residents of the 3rd Ward.

My opponent, by contrast, has, until now, run a back-door, under-handed, campaign of attempted subversion of my campaign, through indirect, and direct, influencing of parties already committed to my support and candidacy, through means such as attempting to reverse previously-made endorsements, through second parties; attempting to influence hosts who have held meetings on my behalf, apparently with the motive of getting said hosts to cancel or withdraw the invitation, and, thereby getting the meeting cancelled; etc., etc., etc.

But now, my opponent is coming out of the woodwork, with the accusations described above, to destroy my candidacy and campaign, with one motive only: to get himself elected.

Do I want to be elected?  Of course I do.  The question is: how.  My opponent’s methods are well known in and around Ypsilanti, in political circles.  My methods are, and have been, only what you see, and have seen.

As for my opponent’s attacks on the Platform of my Political Party: If you want to know what our Platform says, not what Pete Murdock, or “trusty” Getto say it says: go to www.americafirstpartyofmi.org, and read it (the Platform) for yourself, not through the lenses of Pete or “trusty”.  If what you read in our Platform is enough to make you vote against me, then vote against me.

But, remember this: I am running for local office: Ypsilanti City Council, not national office.  I have addressed local issues during my campaign, in very specific ways.  My opponent deals only with the vaguest generalities, such as: he will listen to “everybody’s ideas”; he will build a “consensus”, etc., etc.

That Pete (Murdock) is getting desperate is obvious.  He thought his victory in the primaries, in August, assured his election to City Council.  Now he knows: it ain’t necessarily so.

So, keep throwing the mud, Pete.  I will keep my campaign above board, above ground, out in the open where it has always been: going to front doors, not in back doors; talking honestly to people, as I have been doing; not smearing you, as you are me – and we will see what the voters decide.

Dwayne Stange, Ypsilani Resident

I endorse Mike Eller for Ypsilanti City Council. Mike "is" Ypsilanti; he's a long-time resident, advocate and supporter of the city.

In my interactions with Mike, I have always found him to be sincere, well-informed, decisive, and constructive. A man of his word, he is a problem-solver and a long-term thinker.

I wholeheartedly believe that his presence on the City Council would result in a better representation of Ypsilanti residents and a breath of fresh air for the Council members.

Mike is a true independent; he supports Ypsilanti police and will work to redress the underfunding of emergency services in a time when they are so badly needed.

He has personally helped me to locate the needed resources and access the pertinent laws to deal with a neighborhood nuisance.

Mike is intent on keeping Ypsilanti a great place to live and work, and his solution-oriented thinking will make him a valuable resource to the city.

His interest in the political process is motivated by a belief in the power of democracy, and although we have differing ideas, I wholeheartedly believe that Mike Eller's involvment in the political process is motivated by a belief in the power of democracy.

His presence on the City Council would result in a better representation of Ypsilanti residents and offer for the sitting Council members a fresh perspective.

As your Council Member I will:

Work to reduce Ypsilanti's highest tax rate in the County.

Work to create a pro-business environment in Ypsilanti, resulting in jobs, commerce, and increased tax revenue through a broader tax base.

Use my successful business experience and specific ideas to get Water Street started quickly.

Work to increase funding for both Police and Fire.

Set priorities that are financially practical & responsible - not politically driven.

Apply successful business leadership experience to government.

Introduce a resolution that all Council Members give back salaries and re-allocate those funds.  Civil servants should be servants, and the money is needed elsewhere.

Develop a specific plan for the care and  maintenance of Prospect Park that removes the burden from the city and engages the residents of the 3rd Ward.

"I find Mike Eller's candidacy to be refreshingly different"

Det.  Jill Kulhanek, Pres. of YPOA

Recently, our police department has had to reduce manpower to a maximum of 4 officers per shift for the entire city.  In fact, there have been days when the Police Dept. has had as few as two officers in the field.  Insanity!

The Police Dept. must be supported by increased funding.  This is a necessity if we are to nurture trust and boost morale.

Vote November 4th, 2008

I am running for Ypsilanti City Council, proudly and unashamedly, under a banner of: Less Government, more individual responsibility, and, with God’s help, a better world (and, therefore, a better Ypsilanti).

The people of this country are sick and tired of government, at all levels, controlling, regulating and taxing our property, lives, and businesses, far beyond the original intent and spirit of our nation’s founding documents.  The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States were bold attempts to do what had never been done before, that is: limit the power of government.

It was never the Founding Fathers’ intent to guarantee each citizen a job, a house, or a pair of shoes.  Rather, they fought to guarantee your inalienable right to pursue those things, free from government interference.

Today, we are offered a “choice” (really a non-choice), between Socialist Party A, and Socialist Party B (Republicans and Democrats) – really two (2) arms of the same power – we call them Republicrats.  They both talk of “change”, but there is no change, nor will there be.

I am presently the state chairman of the America First Party of Michigan, and also co-owner and President of Populist Cleaning Co., located in downtown Ypsilanti.

We (our party and myself) believe in the Americanist principles of individual liberty, individual responsibility, and limited government.

If these principles were applied to the workings of local government (in this case, Ypsilanti City Government), as they should be, the City would be out of debt, running smoothly, at a surplus, and not looking for ever-new ways to burden its citizens with its own inability to run itself and its affairs competently.

In short, I offer you a choice, your only true choice, for the future.

Otherwise, you will get the same-old same old, masking as “choices”, but, in reality, no choices at all.

If you, the voters, haven’t found that out by now, will you ever?
